
homas A. Jones teaches and coaches grant writers, evaluates human service programs, and consults on project management.He has extensive experience with strategic and program planning, budgeting, evaluation, staff development, and grants, having held managerial positions in the Michigan departments of Management and Budget, Mental Health, Education, and Energy, Labor & Economic Growth.
Mr. Jones received his undergraduate and master’s degrees from Michigan, and completed the Program for Health Systems Management at the Harvard business school.
He has over 35 years experience in soliciting, writing, and evaluating grant proposals. He has been involved in grant projects exceeding $55 million. He managed a statewide grants system, annually awarding $7 million to community organizations throughout Michigan.
He also designed, directed, and evaluated statewide in-service training programs for 600 professional counselors, managers, and administrative support staff.
Mr. Jones currently offers two grant writing training programs: Basic Grant Writing and Intermediate Grant Writing.
In the Basic program, participants learn the fundamentals, including how to plan, organize, and write a proposal following the basic rules of grant writing. The Intermediate program uses the Basic course outline, but involves much more writing and computer work. Participants complete mini-proposals as part of the Intermediate training.
More than 350 participants in 24 Basic and six Intermediate sessions have awarded Mr. Jones an overall rating of 4.77 on a 5-point scale.
